Curriculum
Ontario Curriculum Programs
At Maple Stars, our comprehensive and flexible curriculum is aligned with the Ontario Ministry of Education policies. Our programs provide students with a proven, rigorous, well-respected, and well-rounded Canadian education – from elementary through high school. The medium of instructions at our school is in English – except for certain language courses.
A Blended Learning Experience
At Maple Stars, our teaching delivery aligns with the Ontario Ministry standards and expectations by blending synchronous (online real-time) and asynchronous (offline time-delayed) methods through our proprietary virtual delivery structures within our seamless and secure Learning Management System (LMS) — MyCompass— where students benefit from our unique approaches to a virtual blended learning environment:
Synchronous and Asynchronous Blend
All our courses are delivered by our global teachers via live course instruction and chats to our students. Through MyCompass, students can easily access their online multimedia interactive learning modules during our live sessions. Students who self-pace will have the flexible option of going into MyCompass to access the learning modules and recorded instructions to learn asynchronously (offline) at any time later during the semester, and study at home or at our global partner institutions' learning hubs.
Teacher-Led Daily Teaching
Our global teachers actively structure, facilitate, and direct the synchronous virtual learning on all our online courses within MyCompass. These learning materials are of various multimedia types — PDFs, videos, music, graphs, animations, virtual labs, etc. — to ensure every lesson is interesting and immersive for our students.
Teacher-Led Weekly Meeting
Our global teacher continuously leads the virtual sessions, assesses evaluates and grades all exercises, assignments, projects, and tests, and provides 1-to-1 weekly synchronous virtual meetings with all students — to discuss and guide each student on their academic progress and to review any recent assessments and projects/assignments.
Progress Check and Attendance
Our proprietary LMS (MyCompass) has in-built automatic tracking of daily academic progress and online attendance by all students — be it in structured online sessions or self-paced offline learning. This helps both our global teachers and students to monitor academic progress and attendance within a single online real-time system.
A Typical School Day
At Maple Stars, we believe in providing holistic and balanced learning experiences to all our students — between academic studies and co-curricular enrichment activities. We strive to discover and nurture talents and leaders in our students. This is in line with our Mission to create ‘all-rounder’ students who will be moulded into stars of tomorrow.
A typical school day at Maple Stars starts at 9am and ends at 3pm at the earliest — for a minimum of 6.0 hours. If students opt to study physically at our local partner institution's learning hub, parents can drop the students as early as 8am and pick them up at 3pm or later (if students have signed up for additional co-curricular enrichment activities). All subjects are teacher-led and delivered online virtually (both synchronously and asynchronously) via our proprietary LMS (MyCompass).
Students at Maple Stars will have a balanced learning between academic core subjects and creative and pro-active co-curricular enrichment activities in each school day. Some activities (music, drama, dance, physical education) will need to be partially completed by students physically at their home or at the learning hub with guidance by our global teachers. On average, we aim to balance a typical school day with about two-third (4.0 hours) in academic studies and with about one-third (2.0 hours) in co-curricular activities within our enrichment programs.

At Maple Stars, all our courses are aligned to the requirements and expectations of the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Ontario curriculum at Elementary School level is designed as a progressive sequence over four academic years: Grade 1 establishes core foundations, Grade 2 reinforces them, Grade 3 broadens understanding and independence, and Grade 4 prepares students for the more advanced Middle School level.
Our school provides the following progressive courses to our students at all grades (Grade 1 to Grade 4):
- English

Transitioning from foundational learning toward advanced academic and critical-thinking expectations.
At Maple Stars, all our courses are aligned to the requirements and expectations of the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Ontario curriculum at Middle School level is designed to progressively transition students from foundational elementary learning toward the academic, organizational, and critical-thinking expectations required for the more advanced high school.
Our school provides the following courses to our students at all grades (Grade 5 to Grade 8):
- English
- Mathematics
- Science and Technology

Grade 9 to Grade 12 (Fall 2027)
Preparing for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
At Maple Stars, all our courses are aligned to the requirements and expectations of the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Ontario curriculum at High School level is designed for students aiming to graduate with the school-leaving Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) at end of Grade 12. Each student needs to complete the following:
- A total of at least 30 total credits to include 17 compulsory credits and 13 elective (optional) credits — refer tables below
- Completion of the English literacy requirement — either Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) at Grade 10 or Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC) at Grade 12
- 40 hours of community involvement (to be discussed and arranged with the school)
- At least 2 online learning credits (taken online in our school)
- Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, students also need to meet the Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement through their Grade 10 Mathematics course
Credit Requirements to obtain OSSD
| Compulsory Credits | 17 |
| Elective (Optional) Credits | 13 |
| Total Credits Earned | 30 |
Each high school credit is based on 110 instructional hours of study.
Typical Credit Distribution by Grade
| Grade 9 | 8 |
| Grade 10 | 8 |
| Grade 11 | 8 |
| Grade 12 | 6 – 8 |
| Total | 30+ |
A mixture of Core and Elective courses for every grade level.
Most students accumulate approximately 30–32 credits by graduation time (by end of Grade 12) — thus allowing for flexibility to re-sit courses, make midway changes on specialisation pathway, pursue other areas of interests, consider cooperative education, and engage in other non-traditional elective opportunities.
Our school typically schedules 8 credits per year of three semesters (4 credits per semester — which is about 3.5 months in our school, excluding holidays). Depending on each student's specialisation pathway (Sciences, Business, Arts), the 8 credits are a combination of core and elective subjects. Over the four academic years (Grade 9 to Grade 12) in high school, students can accumulate up to 32 available credits, which shall provide sufficient elective flexibility to satisfy both the pathway and the minimum 30-credit requirement — in order to obtain the school-leaving Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Generally, our school counselors shall guide and work with each student on satisfying the 30 credits from Grade 9 to Grade 12.
Beyond the Learning
At Maple Stars, we extend beyond traditional academic engagements for our students. Our partner institutions offer enrichment programs, co-curricular activities, field trips, and community service opportunities that complement our Ontario-aligned online learning to foster well-rounded development of our students.
