English

Students focus on:

Students begin preparing for secondary-level literacy expectations.

Mathematics

Students learn:

  • Fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Proportional reasoning

Students increasingly apply mathematics to real-world contexts and problem-solving situations.

Science and Technology

Students study:

  • Interactions in ecosystems
  • Heat in the environment
  • Pure substances and mixtures

Students conduct investigations and evaluate environmental impacts.

History

Humanities replaces Social Studies beginning in Grade 7. In History, students study:

  • Canada from approximately 1713–1850
  • Indigenous peoples and colonial relationships
  • Confederation foundations
  • Political, economic, and social developments

Students begin using historical inquiry skills and evaluating historical evidence.

Geography

Humanities replaces Social Studies beginning in Grade 7. In Geography, students study:

  • Physical patterns in Canada's environment
  • Natural resources
  • Human-environment interactions
  • Geographic inquiry and mapping skills

Health and Physical Education

Students learn about:

  • Healthy relationships
  • Consent
  • Mental health
  • Bullying prevention
  • Substance use
  • Personal safety

Students focus on healthy relationships, consent, and online safety.

The Arts

Students continue developing:

  • Visual Arts
  • Music
  • Drama
  • Dance

Students refine technical and creative skills while analyzing artistic works from multiple cultures and periods.

Core French

Students continue developing:

  • Everyday conversation skills
  • Reading authentic texts
  • Written communication
  • Cultural understanding

Core French is basic level and mandatory from Grade 4 onward.
