Academic Year
At Maple Stars, our Ontario-aligned Elementary, Middle, and High schools operate on a tri-semester academic year – similar to schools in Ontario, Canada. Working with our global partner institutions, the typical academic year at our school is as follow:
- 1st Semester (Fall) : From 2nd week of September to mid-December
- 2nd Semester (Winter) : From 2nd week of January to mid-April
- 3rd Semester (Summer) : From 2nd week of May to mid-August
For every semester, there will be a one-week mid-semester break, and a three-week end-semester break. Co-curricular field trips are usually organized by our partner institutions during these semester breaks.
Our school has a rolling enrolment within an academic year, where new students are welcome to join us at the beginning of any of the three semesters (September, January, May). Mid-semester enrolments of new students are continuous on a case-by-case basis.
At our elementary and middle schools, our students will register for new courses at beginning of the academic year (or the initial semester where they are first enrolled for) and complete each course over the 12-month academic year. Courses are progressive, with more advanced knowledge and skillsets, from one grade to the next. At Maple Stars, all students at our elementary and middle schools study at their own pace based on their personal lifestyle and learning preferences. Ideally, we encourage students to self-pace and aim for 300 minutes (5.0 hours) of instructional learning per weekday on average – covering all the 7 courses (Grades 1 – 3) or 8 courses (Grades 4 – 8) throughout the academic year.
At our high school (starting Fall 2027), students will register for new courses at the beginning of each semester and ideally aim to complete each course within the same semester. However, given the self-paced and flexible nature of our courses, all our students are given three semesters to complete any course. Most of the courses carry 1 credit each, and high school students need to complete 110 hours of instructional time for each course – in order to earn the course credit. A high school student also need to accumulate the 30 credits required (8 credits from Grade 9 to Grade 11, and at least 6 credits in Grade 12) as a requirement to graduate with the school-leaving Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
At Maple Stars, we provide various learning approaches to ensure our students (Grade 1 to Grade 12) enjoy the learning process for each course throughout the academic year – including using a combination of online reading, virtual labs, interactive videos, scientific and technological experiments. With our global partner institutions, students will also spend time everyday exercising their mind and body on various co-curricular activities – including enrichment programs, sports programs, and educational field trips.
Tuition Fees
Premised on above tri-semester academic year, our Ontario-aligned education has three progressive school programs for our students to progress from Grade 1 to Grade 12, and our tuition fees are structured in line with these three programs.
1) Elementary School Program (ESP) — Grade 1 to Grade 4
At Maple Stars, our Ontario-registered elementary school students in Grade 1 to Grade 3 typically take seven (7) courses every week throughout the academic year. These seven courses are English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Social Studies, Arts, Health and Physical Education. In Grade 4, students will need to start taking foundational French as Second Language – bringing the total to eight (8) courses. More information is available at the ’Curriculum’ webpage.
- Grade 1 to Grade 3: Seven (7) courses throughout each academic year.
- Grade 4: Eight (8) courses throughout each academic year.
At Maple Stars, we charge our elementary tuition fee after taking into consideration the total number of courses per academic year, our teaching and administration costs, as well as the costs incurred by our global partner institutions in providing a safe and conducive learning place, maintaining physical/electronic library, proctored assessments, and organizing co-curricular programs (enrichment, sports, field trips).
For ESP, we divide our tuition fees into two tiers – catering to two different groups of students with different preferences:
Tier 1: Tuition Fees Only
Tier 1 is for our ESP students who prefer to study at home and decide not to utilise our global partner institution’s safe and conducive learning place, learning resources (library), and co-curricular programs (enrichment, sports, field trips) – except for proctored course assessments only (when needed and scheduled).
ESP — Tier 1 (2026-2027 Academic Year)
Tier 2: Tuition Fees + Learning Place + Co-curricular Fees*
Tier 2 is for our ESP students who prefer to study at our global partner institution’s safe and conducive learning place with library, proctored assessments, and inclusive of two co-curricular programs – preferably one enrichment and one sports.
ESP — Tier 2 (2026-2027 Academic Year)
Our Commitment
All students who enter at a specific grade level will have their tuition fees fixed for subsequent grade level in future years. For example, if a new student is enrolled into Grade 1, all tuition fees from Grade 2 to Grade 12 will be fixed at time of enrolment based on current academic year. This will ensure students do not need to pay more at higher grade levels when we adjust/increase the tuition fees on the grade levels in future academic years. This is our long-term commitment to our new students.
2) Middle School Program (MSP) — Grade 5 to Grade 8
At Maple Stars, our Ontario-registered middle school students in Grade 5 to Grade 8 typically take eight (8) courses every week throughout the academic year. These eight courses are English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Social Studies (both Geography and History), Arts, Health and Physical Education, and French as Second Language. More information is available at the ’Curriculum’ webpage.
- Grade 5 to Grade 6: Eight (8) intermediate courses throughout each academic year.
- Grade 7 and Grade 8: Eight (8) advanced courses throughout each academic year.
Similar to above ESP, Maple Stars take into due consideration of our teaching and administration costs, as well as the costs incurred by our global partner institutions, when we determine the tuition fee for MSP.
For MSP, we divide our tuition fees into two tiers – catering to two different groups of students with different preferences:
Tier 1: Tuition Fees Only
Tier 1 is for our MSP students who prefer to study at home and decide not to utilise our global partner institution’s safe and conducive learning place, with learning resources (library), and co-curricular programs (enrichment, sports, field trips) – except for proctored course assessments only (when needed and scheduled).
MSP — Tier 1 (2026-2027 Academic Year)
Tier 2: Tuition Fees + Learning Place + Co-curricular Fees*
Tier 2 is for our students who prefer to study at our global partner institution’s safe and conducive learning place with library, proctored assessments, and inclusive of two co-curricular programs – preferably one enrichment and one sports.
MSP — Tier 2 (2026-2027 Academic Year)
Our Commitment
All students who enter at a specific grade level will have their tuition fees fixed for subsequent grade level in future years. For example, if a new student is enrolled into Grade 5, all tuition fees from Grade 6 to Grade 12 will be fixed at time of enrolment based on current academic year. This will ensure students do not need to pay more at higher grade levels when we adjust/increase the tuition fees on the grade levels in future academic years. This is our long-term commitment to our new students.
3) High School Program (HSP) — Grade 9 to Grade 12
At Maple Stars, our Ontario-registered high school students in Grade 9 to Grade 11 typically take eight (8) courses, while those in Grade 12 take around six (6) courses. These core courses are English, Mathematics, Civics, Social Sciences (both Geography and History), Health and Physical Education, Career Studies, and French as Second Language. More information is available at the ’Curriculum’ webpage.
- Grade 9 to Grade 11: Eight (8) courses throughout each academic year.
- Grade 12: From six (6) to eight (8) courses throughout the academic year with cooperative education and career guidance on application for tertiary education (universities/colleges).
Similar to above MSP, we take into due consideration of our teaching and administration costs, as well as the costs incurred by our global partner institutions, when we determine the tuition fee for HSP.
For HSP, we divide our tuition fees into two tiers – catering to two different groups of students with different preferences:
Tier 1: Tuition Fees Only
Tier 1 is for our HSP students who prefer to study at home and decide not to utilise our global partner institution’s safe and conducive learning place, with learning resources (library) and co-curricular programs (enrichment, sports, field trips) – except for proctored course assessments only (when needed and scheduled).
HSP — Tier 1 (2026-2027 Academic Year)
Tier 2: Tuition Fees + Learning Place + Co-curricular Fees*
Tier 2 is for our students who prefer to study at our global partner institution’s safe and conducive learning place, with library, proctored assessments, and inclusive of two co-curricular programs – preferably one enrichment and one sports.
HSP — Tier 2 (2026-2027 Academic Year)
Our Commitment
All students who enter at a specific grade level will have their tuition fees fixed for subsequent grade level in future years. For example, if a new student is enrolled into Grade 9, all tuition fees from Grade 10 to Grade 12 will be fixed at time of enrolment based on current academic year. This will ensure students do not need to pay more at higher grade levels when we adjust/increase the tuition fees on the grade levels in future academic years. This is our long-term commitment to our new students.
* Note: For all three Programs above, parents may need to pay extra for any co-curricular activity (enrichment or sports) that requires qualified instructor/coach/teacher (e.g. music – piano teacher). Our partner institutions will provide logistics to our students for any outdoor co-curricular activity every week at no extra cost.
